NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A party on Saturday night led to three people in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds.
Police arrived at the 800 block of West 43rd Street in Norfolk shortly before 12:30 a.m for reports of multiple gunshots.
Police say when they arrived they found a man suffering from a non life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and is expected to be OK.
While police investigated the scene on 43rd Street, a man and woman walked into Sentara Norfolk General hospital with non life-threatening injuries, also from gunshots.
Investigators have not released any information about possible suspects.
Old Dominion University senior Sydney Shelton says she lives in the upstairs apartment in the building where the shooting occurred.
“I got a call from my neighbors across the street saying ‘Hey! Are you okay?’ I was like ‘Yeah. I’m not at my house right now. Why? What’s up?’ He said ‘I heard six gunshots and it came from right in front of your house,'” Shelton says.
The party was being held in an apartment downstairs. Shelton says she’s gotten used to crime being a reality in the neighborhood, and she takes precautions like walking with a friend or talking on the phone when she’s out.
“It wasn’t surprising to me. I’ve lived on this street for three years now. There’s been multiple shootings on this street. This is the one that’s happened closest to me, like people I knew got shot,” Shelton says.
According to an ODU spokeswoman, the three people who were injured were not students at ODU.
Saturday’s shooting was one of three that happened in Norfolk during a 48-hour period.
Police say all the victims from this weekend’s shootings should recover.
