VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Police are investigating a fatal shooting on Catalina Avenue and Alcott Road that happened Saturday evening.

The usually quiet streets were disrupted by the police activity, and neighbors say it was scary.

“I saw the lights and I looked out of my bedroom window and I could see the cop going over to something on the side of the road.  And then I realized it was a body,” said Carol Young, who lives on Catalina Avenue.  Young says she got home just before police arrived in her neighborhood.  She says she walked outside to see what was going on, but was told to go back inside.

“It’s very scary.  To actually see something like that going on in your neighborhood and to be able to sit in your bedroom and be able to look out of your window and see a body across the road, it’s awful,” Young said.

Dispatch says the emergency call came in at 10:22 p.m. Police arrived on the scene and found a man with an injury to the upper torso. The victim was shot, according to dispatch.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

This unexpected death has left neighbors shocked and with a lot of unanswered questions.  “It’s sad because nothing like this had ever happened in this neighborhood,” said Young.

At this time, there is no information about a suspect.
