Vietnam vet receives new scooter thanks to 10 On Your Side viewers

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A local Vietnam veteran received a brand new scooter thanks to donations made by 10 On Your Side viewers.

WAVY News first told you on Veterans Day that Jon Moore’s moped was stolen from outside of his Norfolk home. It had been his only means of transportation to get to and from work.

But within 12 hours of our story airing, an online fundraiser reached its goal.

“People step up when someone needs help,” Moore said. “I’m overwhelmed.”

On Thursday, Moore picked up his new bike at 7 City Scooters. He was accompanied by his boss, who initially brought the story to 10 On Your Side’s attention.

“I’m so blown away. I don’t know what to say.”

Moore was presented with additional funds as well, because more money had been raised than was needed to purchase the scooter. With that money, he intends to invest in the best security possible.

“I thank that man upstairs,” Moore said. “And I really appreciate everything and especially 10 On Your Side. Now I can get on with my life, go back to work, make a living and just do what any American has a right to do in this country.”
