NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A student at Maury High School was apprehended by police after bringing an unloaded gun to school, police say.

The Norfolk Public School issued a release stating school administrators were notified Thursday morning that a student spotted a gun in a classroom. The School Resource Office and the Norfolk Police Department searched the classroom and recovered the gun.

The 15-year-old student was detained without incident and taken to the police operations center for questioning.

School spokesperson Karen Tanner says school administrators and the Norfolk Police Department are investigating.
