Police identify 24-year-old man killed in Newport News shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man was killed in a shooting Thursday night at a Newport News apartment complex.

At 9:37 p.m., dispatchers received a call for a shooting in the 700 block of Adams Drive. Officers responded and found a 24-year-old man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Marquial Manley, of the 700 block of Adams Drive.

Witnesses told police they saw at least two male suspects running from the scene.

Police are still investigating.

Peninsula authorities ask for public’s help following deadly week

This is the fifth homicide in Newport News in less than a week.

Two people were shot and killed Saturday night at the Tarrytown Apartments. One of those victims was just 19.

On Monday, a 14-year-old boy was seriously injured in a shooting at an apartment complex on River Road. That same night, a 24-year-old was fatally shot on Tara Court. An arrest has been made in this case.

On Tuesday, a 23-year-old was shot and killed on Penrith Lane. A man was arrested and charged in this shooting as well.

Over the past year, WAVY News has also found a 400 percent increase in the number of juveniles shot in the city.
