NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk woman was caught Tuesday with a loaded handgun at Norfolk International Airport.

Security detected the gun as she was passing through a check point. The woman reportedly told officials she forgot the gun was in her luggage.

The gun was loaded with five bullets, according to TSA officials.

TSA officials say this is the 11th detection of a firearm at the airport in 2016. By comparison, TSA officers seized 16 guns in 2015, and seven in both 2014 and 2013.

Information about the correct way to carry a firearm in your luggage can be found on the TSA’s website.
