VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man who barricaded himself in the Ace Cash Express in Virginia Beach in 2014 will serve eight years in prison.

Clarence Brown pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and was sentenced to 28 years with 20 years suspended.

Court papers said Brown “robbed an employee at gunpoint, forced an employee to go into multiple rooms and into the safe, with his hand on her neck and a gun in her back.” He was in there for 20 to 30 minutes, according to the court documents, before he surrendered to police.

No one was hurt.
