SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A death investigation from Wednesday in the 500 block of Lucerne Avenue has been ruled a homicide, according to police on Thursday.
Dispatchers received a call at 12:25 p.m. Wednesday regarding a shooting.
Police have identified the victim as 23-year-old Dalvin Henderson, of Suffolk. Police say Henderson’s death is the result of a shooting incident.
Police did say the situation was never a barricade.
Images from Chopper 10 showed a large police presence with SWAT team members at the scene Wednesday afternoon. Officers and SWAT had guns drawn. They went inside a home on Lucerne Avenue and came out minutes later.
Crowds gathered outside the police perimeter.
“I’ve been over here all my life,” said Willie Sebron. “I hate to see it in my neighborhood.”
Factory Street was shut down in the area for about an hour and a half.
Students who live in that neighborhood were held at school until the road reopened. Booker T. Washington Elementary School was put on a brief lockdown because of the situation. Parents and families were made aware of this information through an emergency notification on school messenger.
The scene on Lucerne Avenue cleared around 7:30 p.m. At that point, 10 On Your Side knocked on the door of the home that SWAT teams entered. Someone inside yelled for our crews to leave.
10 On Your Side also touched base with the victim’s family members, but they did not want to comment.
Police have not released any additional information.
