NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A man told police he was robbed at gunpoint in Newport News Monday.
At about 8:29 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Bailey Court for a report of a robbery. Police arrived and spoke with a 60-year-old Newport News man who claimed he was robbed.
The victim said he was walking away from a store in the 400 block of Oriana Road when he noticed three men following him. The victim said at one point, one of the three men left the area. The other two men confronted the victim near Armstead Loop and Bailey Court. One of the men reportedly told the victim to give up his wallet. The victim and one of the men then got into an altercation. The victim was hit in the face, which caused him to fall between two parked vehicles. The victim told police that the older of the two men had a handgun. The victim then gave up his wallet. After the robbery, the men ran from the scene.
The victim didn’t have any visible injuries and declined medical treatment. He said the stolen wallet had his driver’s license, bank cards and $40 cash in it.
Officers searched the surrounding area but didn’t find anyone.
Police described the first suspect as a black male with a medium complexion, between 18 and 20-years-old, 5 feet to 5 feet 2 inches tall and wearing dark clothing. The older suspect was described as being in his early 20s, between 5 feet 7 and 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium complexion and wearing dark clothes. He was armed with the gun.
Police are still investigating.
