NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Suspects of a car break-in are on the loose Monday after an overnight police chase from Chesapeake to Norfolk ended in a crash.

Investigators say it started around 1 a.m. Tuesday near Las Gaviotas Landing in Chesapeake. Officers were called to the area for a report of suspects breaking into a car.

Officers saw two suspected cars on Battlefield Boulevard and Albemarle Drive. They attempted to stop both cars, but the drivers refused to stop and headed toward the 168 Bypass.

One of the suspected cars exited on to Poindexter Street, while the other — an Acura SUV — continued on Interstate 464. The driver exited I-464 at State Street, lost control and rolled the car once.

Two unknown black males ran from the car. Officers were unable to find them.

Images from the scene showed the SUV damaged on an embankment.

Police say the other car turned around and got back onto I-464 heading into Norfolk. Officers lost sight of the car at 1:10 a.m. on Tidewater Drive.

According to police, the Acura SUV had been stolen in Chesapeake sometime Monday evening.

10 On Your Side spoke with the owner of the SUV, who says she was notified by police that her car was stolen. She said it was during the middle of the night. Her neighbor, Stacey Delveaux, says that she woke up to the lights of her car on, and she realized her car had been broken into.

“I saw two people run down the street, I figured it was kids, trying to look for money or whatever and I saw them,” said Delveaux. “They looked like teenagers. I didn’t know they stole a car.”
