Norfolk father found not guilty of sexually assaulting babysitter

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A jury found a Norfolk father not guilty of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old babysitter.

Court records show Robert Vela, 42, pleaded not guilty to a forcible sodomy charge. A jury agreed.

Norfolk father accused of sexually assaulting teen

The teen reported the incident to police on Nov. 22, claiming that it had happened weeks earlier, on Oct. 26, while she was watching two of Vela’s six children. During a court hearing, Vela’s attorney raised questions about the amount of time between the alleged incident and the first report.
