HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police are still searching for the suspect who killed a man at the Colonial Landing Apartments Tuesday night.

At 9:15 p.m., dispatchers received multiple calls for a shooting that had just happened at the apartment complex on the 2100 block of Kecoughtan Road, near Wythe Parkway. When officers arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from multiple gun shot wounds inside an apartment building. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Witnesses say they heard about a dozen shots.

“I was coming through the parking lot heading towards my apartment and heard at least 10 or 12 shots go off consecutively,” said one witness, who lives at Colonial Landing but did not want to identify himself. “There was at least 20 or 30 people out here and everybody started running like crazy into the buildings. It was a madhouse. It was a lot of shots, a lot of noise and it scared the crap out of me.”

Police identified the victim Tuesday as 60-year-old Gregory Lee Lewis.

The motive and circumstances are still unclear and no suspect information has been released by police.
