HATTERAS ISLAND, N.C. (WAVY) — The body of a fisherman who fell overboard Monday morning was found hours later on Hatteras Island.

U.S. Coast Guard officials say crews were launched around 11 a.m. Monday to search for the man — who was said to have fallen overboard from a commercial fishing vessel.

Two hours later, the National Park Service informed the Coast Guard that the man’s body had been recovered on Hatteras Island by local law enforcement.

Authorities have not yet identified the fisherman.
