NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News Police say a suspect is now in custody after man died Monday night in a shooting.
Dispatchers received a call for a shooting in the 400 block of Tara Court at 8:59 p.m.
When officers arrived, they found a man, who police believed was 24-years-old, with a gunshot wound to the head.
He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. At 9:51 p.m., the victim died from his injuries.
The man was identified Tuesday as 24-year-old Kadeem Montrell Bryant, of Newport News.
Wantu Ceon Wilbert Jr. was arrested and charged with voluntary manslaughter and reckless handling of a firearm.
Police say Wilbert Jr. and Bryant knew each other.
This was the second shooting in the city Monday night in less than two hours.
Earlier Monday, a 14-year-old boy was shot twice and suffered possible life-threatening injuries.
