Newport News woman’s home hit by gunfire

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police say a woman’s sliding glass door hit by gunfire early Sunday morning.

At about 4:36 a.m., officers were called to the 400 block of Manor Road for a report of gunshots heard. They met with a 40-year-old Newport News woman, who said the sliding glass door of her home had been broken. The woman was asleep at the time and was awakened by a loud noise. Police determined a bullet had hit the glass door, breaking the glass and hitting an inside wall.

No one was injured.

Investigators found a spent shell casing near the dumpsters in front of the home.

Police are still investigating.
