NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A 7-Eleven in Newport News was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning.

At 12:12 a.m., officers were called to the store, located at 11500 Jefferson Avenue, for a burglary alarm. While police responded, the call was upgraded to a robbery.

Officers arrived to the scene and met with two employees, who said a man entered the business, approached a register, pulled out a silver and black handgun and told the clerk to “open the register.” Both clerks took the drawer out of their registers and placed them on the counter. The man took cash from both and left the store, walking across the street westbound into the wooded area of Deer Park.

Police described the suspect as a white man wearing a black hoodie, reflective glasses, black gloves with stitching and a black scarf covering the lower half of his face.

Authorities are still investigating.
