14-year-old boy seriously injured in Newport News shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A 14-year-old boy was seriously injured in a shooting Monday night in Newport News.

Dispatchers received a call at 7:33 p.m. for a reported shooting in the 7400 block of River Road. Officers responded and found the teen in an apartment bedroom. He had gunshot wounds to the upper right chest and left arm.

Officer Brandon Maynard with Newport News police says the boy was taken to the hospital with possible life-threatening injuries.

Police do not have any suspect information at this time.

This was the first of two shootings in the city in less than two hours. Around 9:00 p.m., someone was shot in the head on Tara Court.

On Saturday, a 19-year-old was among two people shot and killed in the area of Tarrytown Court.
