Roanoke Rapids gunshot victim crashes vehicle, later dies at hospital

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. (WNCN) — A gunshot victim drove a couple blocks before crashing and later dying at a hospital Saturday evening, Roanoke Rapids Police said.

The incident was reported at 7 p.m. at the intersection of Monroe Street and Preston Street, Roanoke Rapids Police Chief C.T. Hasty Jr. said in an email.

(The) “initial investigation indicates that the victim was shot in the 100 block of Monroe Street and fled the area in a vehicle,” Hasty said.

The gunshot victim then crashed into a parked vehicle about two blocks away at the intersection of Monroe and Preston streets, according to Hasty.

Police were dispatched to the crash scene and found the victim with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital by Halifax County EMS, but later died at the hospital.

There are no suspect descriptions as of Saturday night, Hasty said.

The victim’s name was not immediately released.
