Man expected to survive after shooting inside Virginia Beach restaurant

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man is fighting for his life after being shot Sunday morning inside Inland Reef Bar and Grill on Lynnhaven Parkway.

Emergency dispatchers received the call around 10:45 a.m. for reports of a shooting.

When Virginia Beach police arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from a single gun shot wound. He was taken to a local hospital where he is in critical condition, according to police spokesman Patrick Kane.

Police said Monday morning that the man was expected to survive.

Police say one adult male in custody. The potential suspect was located at the scene.

The Virginia Beach Police Department Detective Bureau and Homicide Unit is investigating this incident.

Customers at the bar, hours after the shooting, say they couldn’t tell a shooting had taken place due to the atmosphere inside.

“It’s very crowded in there,” says Major Gooden, he’s been going to the restaurant for the past eight years.

“This is my place to watch the football games. I always come here all the time to watch the games. Off season, whenever my ships here during the year. I didn’t know anything about a shooting,” Gooden says.

An employee told 10 On Your Side the shooting involved two customers who had been arguing. Residents living next to the shopping center were also shocked to here about the shooting.

“It’s pretty rare. Sometimes you hear shootings far away but not that close. It’s too close. I’m glad not too many people got hurt,” says Jaysen Briscoe.

Briscoe says he’s lived in the neighborhood off Lynnhaven for five years, and was at home making breakfast at the time of the shooting. He says he did not hear the shooting but he’s planning to be more proactive for his family.

“Make sure my family stays safe and hope that person in the hospital gets better,” Briscoe says.

Gooden also agreed it’s a good neighborhood and the Inland Reef Bar is a good place to go. It’s one of the reasons why he says the shooting will not stop him from returning.

“Great place to be, good food, good people. I’m going to keep coming here,” Gooden says.
