Hampton man charged in Charlottesville stabbing

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WAVY) – A Hampton man is in custody after stabbing a man, early Sunday morning.

According to the Charlottesville Police Department, officers were called to the 200 block of W. Water Street about a fight around 1:15 a.m. When officers arrived to the scene they were able to break up the fight.

After the incident, they found that one man had been stabbed. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Jibari Naeem Ward, 22, of Hampton, was then arrested and charged with malicious wounding.

A Charlottesville Police Officer was also assaulted during the incident. He was not injured, charges are pending.

Ward is currently being held at the Albemarle Charlottesville Regional Jail.
