Coast Guard crews rescue 5 off Carolina coast

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WAVY) – Coast Guard crews rescued five people from the water after their boat capsized three miles off the coast of Carolina Beach, Saturday morning.

Coast Guard Sector North Carolina received the emergency call at  7:30 a.m.

A helicopter crew from Air Station Elizabeth City launched and found the boat around 9:50 a.m. The crew brought three people aboard from the water and took them to New Hanover Regional Hospital. A Coast Guard boat rescue crew pulled two people from the water. The two were taken to Station Wrightsville Beach and transferred to awaiting EMS personnel.

The search for the capsized boat covered 613 square nautical miles and took over four hours.
