HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – The democratic process starts early in Hampton Roads.

Primrose School at Cahoon Commons in Chesapeake organized an Election Day to help students to understand the importance of civic involvement and citizenship at an early age.

Primrose preschoolers and kindergartners learned how to vote Tuesday by casting ballots for their favorite Primrose friend mascot.

After the students cast their ballots, each one went home with an “I VOTED” sticker.

“We want children to enjoy giving back to their local community. Voting is a great way for each of them to get involved and feel connected. We hope that today’s event will become a topic for our students and their families at the dinner table especially because their parents would have exercised their vote TODAY in the presidential election,” said Tonya Gill, Franchise Co-Owner of Primrose School at Cahoon Commons.
