PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Department of Transportation will test drones Wednesday to use for bridge inspections.

The test is planned for Wednesday afternoon on Route 164, over the western branch of the Elizabeth River in Portsmouth. The testing will be from the pedestrian bridge that goes beneath the highway bridge.

Senator Mark Warner and Secretary of Transportation Aubrey Layne are expected to attend.

The test will be outside, and will depend on weather conditions.
