Vehicle fires in Hampton, Norfolk cause major delays on I-64W at the HRBT

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Two vehicle fires — one in Hampton and one in Norfolk– caused a major traffic headache for drivers on I-64 west at the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Friday afternoon and evening.

One vehicle fire closed all westbound lanes of Interstate 64 in Hampton, just past the HRBT, for about an hour Friday evening. The eastbound lanes were also closed, but  all have since reopened.

A second vehicle fire on the Norfolk side of the HRBT shut down all lanes of 64 west again, later in the evening. All lanes opened back up around 8:00 p.m.

In addition to the vehicle fires, an “incident” closed the ramp to 15th View Street, VDOT said. The ramp has reopened.
