HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A 20-year-old man wanted on charges for a late October shooting is now also a suspect in a Nov. 2 shooting that sent one man to the hospital.

Paris Javon Cooper is currently wanted on multiple charges for an Oct. 29 armed robbery and shooting that sent a 21-year-old man to the hospital. Police say the victim was shot after an altercation broke out between him and a man trying to rob him at a house on Derby Drive. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.

“He is considered armed and dangerous,” said Hampton Police Sergeant Matt Bond. “Right now, Mr. Cooper is the Hampton police division’s number one priority in apprehending this individual.”

Cooper is now wanted on charges of maiming and use of a fire arm in commission of a felony for a Wednesday evening shooting, which happened outside of the Murphy USA gas station on Cunningham Drive.

At the scene, detectives spent hours looking for clues and talking to witnesses. They developed a suspect and it was a familiar name.

“I’m not inside his head,” Bond said. “I don’t know what he is thinking.  It is obvious that he has a lack of regard for human life at this point.”

A victim suffering multiple gunshot wounds was found at the scene by police, and is said to still be in critical condition.

Both shootings are being treated as isolated incidents at this time.

Police say they continue to speak with witnesses and family members looking to find Cooper. They believe he is still in the area.

“Someone out there knows where he is and we need the community’s involvement,” Bond said. “Crime gets solved when the community gets involved.”

Call the Hampton Police Division at 757-727-6111 or the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP if you know anything on the whereabouts of Cooper.
