VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Tourism in Virginia Beach is strong with spending over $1.4 billion a year.
At the State of Tourism event Wednesday, city officials said the focus is now shifting to developing destination branding. Beach is in the city name, but there’s more to Virginia Beach than the Oceanfront.
“We have such great opportunities here: outdoor recreation, culinary product, growing craft beer scene — lots of great activities year-round,” said Brad Van Dommelen, Director of the Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Much more than just a beach town, we are a coastal city that has year-round activities.”
Summer tourism is the city’s bread and butter, but hopefully, with some clever branding, those tourism dollars can start pouring in all year.
