ISLE OF WIGHT COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters battled a small fire Wednesday morning at Carrsville Elementary School. As a result of the damage, officials say the school will remain closed for the rest of the week.

Investigators say the alarm company alerted them to smoke in the building around 2:38 a.m. Crews quickly put out the fire after arriving on scene. No one was hurt.

Isle of Wight schools spokesperson Lynn B. Briggs says school at Carrsville Elementary School was cancelled for all students and staff Wednesday after the fire and will remain closed Thursday and Friday to complete the restoration process.

Briggs says the fire started on a laptop computer cart in the hallway. The damage was mostly cosmetic, according to Briggs, but there is soot and smoke that crews will need clear out.

This fire was one of three that broke out overnight in Hampton Roads.

A Virginia Beach home off of Windsor Gate Road was heavily damaged in a fire around 1:30 a.m. The homeowner, two family members and three dogs made it out safely.

One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation from a house fire in the Park Place neighborhood of Norfolk.
