Man fighting for his life after shooting outside Hampton gas station

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man was shot multiple times Wednesday outside the Murphy USA gas station in Hampton.

Dispatchers received multiple calls about the shooting at 4:48 p.m. Officers arrived on scene to find a male victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police had said he suffered non life-threatening injuries, but later issued a correction.

Authorities have not released any information about suspects or a possible motive in the shooting.

Hampton police have said in the past week that there’s been an uptick in violent crime recently. As a result, investigators are launching a Community Response Team to target guns, gangs and drugs. Police said they will target suffering areas with increased patrols and traffic stops. They are also holding community meetings to gather input from concerned citizens.
