Fire heavily damages Virginia Beach home overnight

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — No one was hurt Wednesday morning after a home in Virginia Beach suffered significant damage in a fire.

It happened around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday on Windsor Gate Road, just off South Plaza Trail.

The homeowner told 10 On Your Side he heard one of his dogs barking and woke up to find a sofa on fire. He, along with two other family members and 3 dogs escaped. The homeowner then called 911.

No one was hurt. Firefighters haven’t said exactly what started the fire.

This fire was one of three that broke out overnight in Hampton Roads.

A small electrical fire at Carrsville Elementary School caused cosmetic damage overnight Wednesday. School was cancelled for students and staff as a result.

One person was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation from a house fire in the Park Place neighborhood of Norfolk.
