Lawsuit in Hampton officer-involved shooting thrown out

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A wrongful death lawsuit filed in response to a 2011 officer-involved shooting in Hampton has been tossed out.

A judge made the decision Tuesday.

William Cooper was shot and killed by officers in 2011, while police were serving a warrant at his home. Cooper fired at officers and they returned fire, killing him.

The three officers involved were cleared of any wrongdoing.
