CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Smoke and flames poured from a vacant home in Deep Creek early Tuesday morning when crews pulled up to the scene of a fire.

Investigators say it happened around 12:30 a.m. on Gilmerton Road.

Firefighters got the flames under control within 30 minutes. The single-story home was severely damaged in the fire.

Investigators say they determined this is a case of arson.

Angele Banks lives nearby and witnessed the fire, “The house just lit up in flames, and after that, it was all over.”

“I was like, in the middle of the street about to hit the gravel driveway. And when they got the door open, it just, not even 10 seconds and the whole house was covered in flames…that quick from the side to the whole house,” Banks said.

No one was hurt in the fire.
