Va. Beach man killed in wrong-way crash in New Kent

NEW KENT, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia State Police say one person was killed and another was seriously hurt Monday night in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 64 in New Kent.

James C. Pavlikowski, 25 of  Virginia Beach, was driving a 2002 Chrysler Sebring east on the westbound when his car and a 2003 Ford Windstar van collided head-on. The crashed happened at 11:45 p.m. Monday near mile marker 219.

Pavlikowski was not wearing a seat belt during the crash, according to state police, and died at the scene. The female driver of the Ford was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police say she was wearing a seat belt. Alcohol is being considered as a factor in the crash.
