WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (WAVY) — A man is facing a felony charge for assaulting a police officer following a Friday night struggle with police.

Williamsburg police say officers were called to an apartment on Merrimac Trail around 10:40 p.m. Friday after a caller reported that someone was destroying things inside of the home.

According to police, officers saw that the suspect, 48-year-old Timothy Patrick Kelly, was standing in the middle of the apartment after a victim had answered the door.

As the officers tried to enter the apartment, Kelly reportedly said he would kill the officers before he charged at them.

Kelly was then taken into custody, following a brief struggle with the officers in which he sustained a minor injury. The officers were not hurt during the confrontation with Kelly.

Kelly was taken to Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail and charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer.
