ARLINGTON, Va. (WAVY) – More than 25,000 runners from all over the world lined up early Sunday for the Marine Corps Marathon.
Runners between the ages of 14 – 83 started the 26.2 mile course shortly before 8 a.m. The starting line was in Arlington, right between Arlington National Cemetery and the Pentagon.
The race is known as the “Marathon of Monuments” as participants from 55 nations jog by several of the famous landmarks in Washington, D.C.
The end of the race is a challenging uphill climb to the Marine Corps War Memorial.
