Teenager seriously injured in Newport News shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police responded to a shooting in the 2300 block of Chestnut Avenue, Saturday evening.

Newport News police say the incident happened around 9:19 p.m. Police arrived to the scene and found a 19-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound in the upper body.

The victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police say that according to a witness that was with the victim, the two were walking in the area of 24th Street & Chestnut Avenue when they heard gunshots.

The two fled on foot and ended up on Chestnut Avenue where they called police. The witness was not injured.

There is no other information at this time.
