PORTSMOUTH, Va (WAVY) — Teal colored pumpkins are popping up on porches across the country and right here in Hampton Roads.
The “blue hue” signals a safe place for kids with food allergies to trick or treat.
These homes will have non-food treats, like plastic rings, pencils or tattoos, for kids with life-threatening allergies, feeding tubes or other ailments.
Kristin Osborne, Founder of Virginia Food Allergy Advocates says without it her kids and others would miss out on the fun.
“It’s devastating to not be able to have children that are included in everything else and to be different. It’s hard for them and it’s hard for me to watch,” said Osborne.
