NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Snow, rain and sleet Thursday night caused power outages and damage across western Massachusetts.

Police blocked off the intersection of North Elm Street and Hatfield Street in Northampton after the snow caused branches to snap off, and bring down live wires. Northampton Police Officer Eli Pack told 22News the National Grid was called in to make repairs and to get the wires off the street.

Also in Northampton, on Pensacola Street, a massive tree branch snapped off a tree and toppled over onto a roof. Officer Pack said one woman was home at the time, but she was not hurt. He said crews were working Thursday night trying to figure out how to get the branch off the home.

Northampton wasn’t the only city where we saw some damage. In Hadley, branches fell off the trees and on to Breckenridge Road. A tree then fell over, and blocked the road. Hadley Police said the tree was removed, and the road was open.

There were reports of tree and wire damages throughout western Mass, which also caused multiple power outages. At the height of the outage Thursday night, more than 3,800 Eversource customers were without power.
