Man airlifted from 2-car crash in Isle of Wight with serious injuries

ISLE OF WIGHT, Va. (WAVY) — A 22-year-old man was airlifted Friday morning from the scene of a two-car crash in Isle of Wight County.

The crash was reported shortly after 5 a.m. Friday, and Potter tells WAVY.com Virginia State Police was called to the scene.

A 22-year-old man driving a Honda Coupe was flown from the scene via Nightingale and taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Police say his injuries were considered serious

He was reportedly driving north on Courthouse Highway when he lost control and collided head-on with Cadillac SUV that was being driven on the southbound side by a 37-year-old woman.

She was taken to Riverside Hospital with minor injuries.

Lt. Tommy Potter with the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Office tweeted around 5:25 a.m. that motorists should expect major delays in the area from a two-car crash.

The crash closed Courthouse Highway in both directions at Factory Road for nearly three and a half hours. All lanes were reopened before 9 a.m. Friday.

Virginia State Police assisting Isle of Wight with the investigation. Speed is suspected to have been a factor in the crash.
