PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — One man is dead and another man is seriously hurt after a double shooting reported in the Marsh Landing neighborhood Thursday night.
Police were called to the 900 block of Suburban Parkway shortly before 8:30 p.m. When officers arrived on scene, they found two men shot in the upper body.
The man killed in the shooting was identified Friday as 26-year-old Christopher A. Washington.
10 On Your Side spoke to a woman who identified herself as Washington’s aunt.
“He was a good person, he was in the church, he loved the Lord,” she said. “They said he was in the wrong place at the wrong time, that there was no argument, and he just got caught in the crossfires,” the aunt said.
The other man was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said Friday that he remains in critical condition.
A neighbor told 10 On Your Side that there was a street fight around 7 p.m. in the area where the shooting occurred.
Friday afternoon, Portsmouth police officers went door to door as part of their RESET program. They offer resources to community members dealing with a traumatic event and also work to strengthen the relationship with the community.
“The main goal is to make sure that our community is healing and that they don’t continue to dwell on the traumatic event,” said Portsmouth Police Detective Misty Holley. “We do everything we can to help them move past that. But yes, we do hope to generate some possible leads or some information in addition.”
At this time, there is no information about a motive or possible suspects.
Police are still investigating. If you know anything about this shooting, you’re asked to call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
