Gas odor causes temporary evacuation of Great Bridge Primary

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) — Great Bridge Primary School was briefly evacuated Thursday morning while firefighters investigated an odor of natural gas.

Chesapeake firefighters were called to the school around 9:20 a.m. after a slight smell of gas was detected inside the school. The school had already evacuated by the time firefighters arrived on scene.

Fire officials say the school was evacuated for a total of 30 minutes.

Firefighters were unable to find a leak or evidence of an odor, officials say. Students, teachers and staff returned to the school at 10 a.m.
