VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A man was charged with arson in connection to a house fire in Virginia Beach Wednesday afternoon.

Art Kohn with the Virginia Beach Fire Department says crews responded to a home in the 5000 block of Haygood Road around 1:21 p.m. Kohn says firefighters arrived on scene and found two men outside the home. When crews went inside, they found two fires burning in two separate rooms of the house. They were quickly extinguished.

No one was hurt in the fire and damage was mostly limited to the two rooms where the fires appear to have started.

Investigators confirmed the fires appear to have been intentionally set. An accelerant-sniffing K-9 went inside the home and quickly found traces of an accelerant that was likely used to start the fires.

Virginia Beach Fire investigators have charged 32-year-old David Antwon Nelson with arson and threat to burn.

Nelson appeared in court Thursday for his arraignment, where he was appointed a public defender. He has a preliminary hearing set for December 15.
