Suffolk residents with storm damage may get reduction in tax levies

SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Property owners in Suffolk may be eligible for a reduction in tax levies if buildings were destroyed or damaged by Hurricane Matthew.

If the damage is equal to or exceeds $500 in value of the building, a reduction is allowed. You cannot get a reduction in tax levies unless the destruction rendered the building unfit for use or occupancy for 30 days or more.
