Driver hits tree during police pursuit in Chesapeake

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – A police chase that started in Chesapeake, ended in Norfolk after a driver hit a tree on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say that the incident began shortly before 1 p.m. when an officer was conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of Bainbridge Boulevard and Poindexter Street for a traffic violation.

The driver of the vehicle, whose vehicle was reported stolen, refused to stop. Officers pursued the vehicle all the way into Norfolk and it ended after the driver hit a tree at the intersection of Joe Austin Drive and Herbert Collins Way.

The man driving the vehicle was transported with non-life-threatening injuries. There were no other occupants in the stolen vehicle.

Charges are now pending for the driver.
