PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – During the normal course of the year, Robert Hitchings is an archivist and historian. However, as Halloween nears, his role changes a bit. Robert and his cast of dark characters volunteer their time to give tours of what he likes to call “The City of the Dead” at The Elmwood Graveyard in downtown Norfolk. Why? It is a fun and different activity this time of year, it is a great way to share some interesting Norfolk history and it is a fundraiser.
The tours raise funds for the preservation of the Elmwood and Cedar Grove Cemeteries. Robert takes his tour guests from grave to grave telling true stories about who is buried beneath them.
The next Murder and Mayhem Tour is this Friday, October 28 at 5:30 p.m at the Elmwood Cemetery at 238 Princess Anne Road..
