Man charged in connection to Hampton triple shooting

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Police have arrested a man in connection to a triple shooting near Hampton University that left one person dead and two others injured.

At 9:42 p.m. on October 19, dispatchers received a call about a shooting that had just happened in the first block of Mariners Cove Road. When officers arrived, they found three men suffering from gunshot wounds. One of them, 20-year-old Kevin Neal, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other two men were taken to local hospitals for what are now considered non life-threatening injuries.

Police investigation revealed that two suspects approached a 22-year-old Hampton man, showed a gun and tried to rob him. The man then showed his own gun, and there was an exchange of gunfire. Everyone involved was hit by gunfire.

20-year-old McCardeous Markell Askew, of Newport News, was arrested in connection to the incident and is charged with one count of attempted robbery, one count of maiming, two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and one count of shooting into an occupied dwelling.
