NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Khizr Khan, a Virginia Gold Star father whose son was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star, was in Norfolk Wednesday campaigning for Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.
Capt. Humayun Khan was killed in action while serving in Iraq.
Kahn spoke Wednesday afternoon at a Clinton campaign event in Norfolk, where he met with local community leaders and veterans.
There, Kahn criticized Trump’s proposed ban on Muslim immigration and said the Republican presidential candidate is temperamentally unfit to be president or commander-in-chief.
10 On Your Side spoke with Kahn one-on-one. He told WAVY News Trump fails to want to learn about diversity.
“He neither understands. What makes it worse: his inability to want to learn,” Kahn said. “It makes him such a dangerous candidate, not only for president, for commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of the United States. You need a person with special qualities, deliberate thoughtfulness. He lacks all of these qualities.”
Khan spoke at the Democratic National Convention in July where he said that GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump has “sacrificed nothing and no one.”
Trump later made comments about the Khan family, and specifically Ghazala Khan, who was on stage at the convention, but did not speak.
