HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A man died after being shot in the driveway of his aunt’s home in the 100 block of Ethel Drive in Hampton Tuesday evening. Police have identified him as 19-year-old Travuan Rouser.

“My nephew was standing right here. And the bullet came through that window and hit him and that’s when he fell,” his aunt, who did not want to be identified, told

Police say a white vehicle drove down an adjacent street, and someone inside fired down Ethel Drive. Rouser was standing behind a parked car. A bullet went through the car’s windows and then hit Rouser, according to his aunt. She says she has her own theory on who may be responsible.

“It was just people who are jealous of them. That’s what it was. People just straight jealous,” she told 10 On Your Side.

Neighbors tell 10 On Your Side they’ve felt unsafe over the past few months. Because of activity they’ve seen outside their homes, they’ve gone so far as to call police. Sunday night shots were fired, hitting one house. It’s unclear if the two incidents are related.

Rouser’s aunt is defending her nephew’s character, adding her own theory on a possible motive.

“It wasn’t a drug-related crime, it was a gang-related crime, and it’s going on all the way from here down to Newport News.”

Despite concerns from neighbors, she says her nephew was a good person — one whose life ended too soon.

“They’re going to be held responsible for their actions. Because you can’t get away with murder. You’re going to get caught, you’re going to get caught.”

Police do not have any suspect information at this time. If you know anything about this incident, call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

This is the fourth shooting in Hampton in a week.

On October 18, a man was shot in the 1200 block of North King Street.

Then, there were two shootings on October 19. A man was hurt after a domestic-related shooting on Celey Street.

Later that night, three people were shot at the Hampton Harbor Apartments, near Hampton University. Two of them were injured and one person was killed. A suspect has been arrested in connection to that incident.
