Burfoot was indicted in January on several federal charges including conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud and honest services wire fraud, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The defense has filed a document, saying it may call upon a former housing official, the former city manager, a lawyer and deputy treasurers. They may help prove Burfoot did not trade political favors for cash and gifts.

In September, Norfolk developer Ronnie Boone pleaded guilty to bribing city officials — including Burfoot.

Boone’s guilty plea does not look good for Burfoot

Burfoot’s federal trial has been set for November 7.
