Newport News authorities warn of jury duty phone scam

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Authorities in Newport News say they’ve received an increase in scam reports recently.

Both the Newport News Sheriff’s Office and the police department said on Facebook that residents say they’re getting calls from someone who says they’ve missed jury duty and will be arrested if they don’t pay money. The caller says they are with the sheriff’s office.
