VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Crews will break ground Monday on a $35 million mixed-use development in the heart of Virginia Beach Town Center.

Developers Armada Hoffler Properties, Inc. say the building will include 39,000 square feet of street-level retail and restaurant space, a performing arts theater and 120 luxury apartments.

It is expected to be completed in the spring of 2018.

“Since Fiscal Year 2005, the Town Center of Virginia Beach has generated $72 million dollars in business taxes, used mainly to support the City’s General Fund which pays for public education, street maintenance and public safety in every corner of Virginia Beach,” said Mayor Will Sessoms.

Armada Hoffler Properties has invested a total $500 for the Town Center project since its inception.

Monday’s groundbreaking event is scheduled to take place at Fountain Plaza at 11 a.m.
